Well, the Easter Jeep® Safari in Moab, Utah has come and gone, and as expected the 2016 Jeep Wrangler Trailcat concept model was the star of the show. For those that missed the news ahead of the event, the Trailcat was an automotive experiment involving a standard Wrangler model that just so happened to also feature the beastly Hellcat engine that helped make both the Dodge Charger Hellcat and Dodge Challenger Hellcat models cultural phenomenons in 2015. In terms of the most fun automotive ideas of the year, there’s no question that the Trailcat has to be considered one of them, if not the single most intriguing concept of all.
This is, after all, the Wrangler that we’re talking about here. Even without the extra power, the Wrangler already is considered by many to be among the most well-regarded off-road vehicles in the industry, so adding a massive 6.2-liter V8 engine capable of producing an incredible 707 hp, as well as other add-ons like 39.5-inch BFGoodrich tires and larger axles and shocks, sort of pushes this thing completely over the edge as one of the most intriguing hypothetical 2016 Jeep models of the year.
Sadly, it doesn’t look like Jeep is going to send this beauty to production, though we can’t imagine what self-respecting Jeep lover with the appropriate funds wouldn’t love to own this thing, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see a Jeep with the Hellcat engine sometime in the near future. In fact, we keep hearing that a Grand Cherokee Hellcat is coming, and if this Trailcat concept is a sneak peek into what we might be able to expect in terms of something like that, then everybody here at Woody Folsom Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM is 100% on board.
