When you look at the history of Dodge as a brand, you cannot disassociate it with the growth and development of muscle cars. Basically, from its conception, Dodge has had a vehicle that shatters both horsepower records as well as eardrums when their drivers turned the keys. We at Woody Folsom Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM are proud to be a part of that legacy, and strive to provide a great selection of new Dodge cars to our Baxley, GA customers.
Today though, we want to put the spotlight on a race that it almost symbolic in its makeup: the iconic muscle car of the late 60s and early 70s, a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, and the newest muscle car Dodge has brought forth, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The Demon rolls off the line with a mind-blowing 840 horsepower, and Dodge says that makes it able to run a ¼-mile in 9.65 seconds. The Charger R/T didn’t have any specifics mentioned, but back in the day it started at 375 horsepower, with its available Hemi package racking up to 425 horsepower.
The two faced off at Mission Raceway Park in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. While the winner was clearly the beast that had potentially twice the horsepower, it ran it in only ten seconds, .35 seconds below the labeled time that Dodge promised. And while there’s a ton of variables that could contribute to that happening, what’s important to take away from this race is the sheer “changing of the guard” feel a race like this invokes. This new monster muscle car is racing against the giant whose shoulders it’s standing on, and that’s something special.
To get that muscle car feeling for yourself, stop in today to Woody Folsom Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM today to test drive a Dodge Challenger today! You’re never going to forget that moment your foot hits the pedal and your heart pounds as the Challenger speeds away.
